The American Dream of owning your very own home has drastically changed over the years. By this, I did not mean to say that Americans are not advised to own a property that will serve as their home anymore. Instead, however, the options for having a home have become so vast that there comes another point of decision-making for those people who are interested in finally owning a property.
Now that cities are becoming more compact than ever, the question arises: should you get a condominium unit or should you still get a house and lot instead? Assuming you already know what the physical differences are between the two types of properties, we can take a look at the benefits that each of them should bring. Primary among the benefits of condominiums is the ease of maintenance. Since you won't have a yard, you also won't have anything to take care of during the busy weekends. Furthermore, a lot of the maintenance tasks are done by the condo owner himself, so better be clear with your conditions with each other. Then there's also the idea of having a safer environment when you have a condo as opposed to having your own home. Some condos also have amenities that you can't otherwise buy own your own, such as gym equipment, spas, and pools. But buying a traditional home also has its perks, perks that we've known for so long. Number 1 is privacy. If you're a privacy freak, I'm sure you know that it's more private to be in a home complete with a yard instead of a home whose neighbor is just beyond the wall. And if you are worried about investments, you'll be glad to know that house and lot properties actually appreciate in value overtime, as opposed to apartments that actually depreciate in value. In the end, I think it all goes down to location. If you plan to retire in the countryside, there's no point of getting a condo unit, assuming there's one available around in the first place.
